As any CoinBets regular will know, I’m rather fond of Hacksaw slots, so I thought I’d play a few spins on Rise of Ymir – a visually impressive Nordic mythical fantasy. Apparently, Ymir was an ancient giant – the first being in fact – formed from water droplets when ice from Niflheim touched heat from Muspelheim. Hmm, “Niflheim” sounds suspiciously like “Nephilim”, right? If you know, you know.

Anyways, back to the slot. It’s a 5-reel, 4-row affair with 14 paylines and a max win of 15,000x your bet. The theoretical RTP ranges from 88.23% to 96.31%, and it’s highly volatile. Features include Ymir’s Conquest – a wild multiplier that goes up to x100 – a Megamultiplier, Dawn of Gods scatters, and the Fury of War free spins bonus game. Basically, there’s quite a bit of ancient mythical action going on here!

However, despite the drama, after betting 50 USDT I only managed to win back 33.60 – making for a rather disappointing real RTP of just 67.2%. Hardly the epic adventure I was looking for, but still, a decent slot.

Gargantoonz  (Play’n GO)

To try and turn my luck around, the next slot I chose was a familiar favorite: Gargantoonz from Play’n GO. If you liked Reactoonz, Reactoonz 2, or Dr Toonz, you’ll like this game. 

It’s packed with fun features like Fluctuation, Black Hole, Discharge, the Experiment Charger, Supernova, Gamma Ray Bursts, Gargantoon Charger, and, of course, Gargantoonz – so things rarely get dull. The max win is 7,000x your bet, it’s highly volatile, and the official RTP ranges from 84.20% to 96.20%. 

However, despite a lot of visual action, after betting 50 USDT, I’d only managed to claw back a paltry 18.60 – giving a real RTP of just 37.20%.

So far, I’m not having much luck at K8 casino!

Crash & Instant Wins

It’s always interesting to see how a crypto casino organizes its crash games and other instant wins. Here at K8.io, they’ve opted to put them in a category called “Mini Games.” Fair enough – at least they haven’t just dumped them in with the slots, which is so annoying. 

With just under 40 games, the category isn’t the biggest, but there are some cool games here. For example, you’ll find Aviator, Plinko, and Keno from Spribe, Catanza, Vortex, and PumpedX from Turbo Games, and Launch X Originals and Rock Paper Scissors Originals from Microgaming. Many of the games in this section are provably fair. 

Live Casino

With just over 110 games to choose from, the K8 live casino is very much on the small side compared with competitors. The majority of the blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker, and dice games on offer are from Evolution, with some from PlayAce, Ezugi, and Bombay Live for good measure.

Live game shows get their own category here at K8, though with just 18 Evolution games available, the choice isn’t the best. Still, you can play popular hits like Football Studio, Crazy Time, and Monopoly Live.

Table Games and Video Poker

The only roulette, blackjack, and baccarat games at K8.io appear to be of the live dealer variety. However, there are some video poker options from Victory Poker (you’ll find them in the “Board Games” category, along with Mahjong).

Unusually for a crypto casino, bingo gets its own category at K8.io. In it, you’ll find nearly 40 video bingo games – all from Caleta Gaming. Specific titles available include Baile Funk Bingo, Bingo Valhalla, and Crazy Clover Bingo.

To find the provably fair games at K8 crypto casino, you’ll need to look in the previously mentioned “Mini Games” category. In addition to the games from third-party providers like Spribe and Turbo Games, you’ll find K8 Original versions of Wheel, HiLo, and Keno.

CoinBets Challenge: Playing it Safe with Wheel

Normally, I like to take risks with the CoinBets Challenge, but with my balance decimated by the slots, I needed to play things safe. So I opted to go with K8’s original provably fair version of Wheel. The challenge was super simple: make a profit! 

So, I set up the autoplay for 50 x 0.50 USDT bets, on low risk, with 30 segments, and let her rip…

And it felt like I was on to a winner, with lots of 1.20x multipliers and a few 1.50x. But feelings can be deceiving. When all was said and done, I’d actually made a small loss, winning back just 23.40 from the 25 USDT wagered – a real RTP of 93.6%. 

Not terrible, but hardly the win I was looking for. 

As for the game itself, well, it’s very much your standard Wheel game – nothing bad about it, but nothing special either. The provably fair verification does go into way more detail than at most casinos, actually showing the calculations, but that’s more academic than anything – in terms of gameplay, Wheel at K8.io is “so, so.” 

Sportsbook

At the time of writing this K8.io review, the platform did have “Sportsbook” listed in the main menu. However, it just contained a small selection of Pragmatic Play virtual sports games. Specifically, Flat Horse Racing, Darts, Fantastic League Football, Penalty Shootout, Steeple Chase, Force 1 Racing, and Greyhound Racing. 

To make sure it wasn’t just my location that couldn’t access sports betting, I tried various countries using a VPN – including Ireland, Malta, Japan, and Hong Kong – but sports betting wasn’t available from any of them. 

Hardly what I’d call a “sportsbook!”

Unsurprisingly, K8.io looks and feels very much like virtually every other contemporary crypto casino. But it’s pleasant to look at, easy to navigate, and everything seems to work fine. As mentioned previously, the important terms and conditions are readily available, and despite some strange phrasing, everything is clear enough. 

K8 casino does, however, fail miserably when it comes to responsible gambling. There’s not even a token page in the footer, let alone any safer gambling tools. Quite how this casino even has a Curacao license is a mystery – I very much suspect it won’t be renewing it, because there’s no way it would be the new, more stringent requirements post-2024. I predict it will switch to an Anjouan license soon enough.

Sooo, that’s what K8.io has to offer, but what do players think of it? Well, as always, I’ll preface this by saying it’s very hard to gauge a casino’s reputation these days – there are just too many fake reviews and too much affiliate spam out there.
